The birth of

Jesus

The story begins with Jesus’ miraculous birth in Bethlehem. Following his birth, shepherds and wise men pay honor to the Christ child. However, the pleasant occasion is quickly eclipsed by the terrible events that follow.

The massacre of the

innocents

Fearing a prophecy about a new monarch, the tyrannical monarch Herod orders the killing of all male children under the age of two in Bethlehem. This heinous event, known as the Massacre of the Innocents, leads the Holy Family to depart their homeland and seek safety in a foreign country.

The Journey Into

Egypt

Joseph, Mary, and the infant Jesus set off on a risky and treacherous journey to Egypt, led by an angel, which would have put the family’s faith and fortitude to the test. They traverse mountains and deserts while overcoming the many obstacles that come with such a difficult journey.

The Arrival of the Holy Family in Egypt
Land of

safety

The Holy Family eventually arrives in Egypt, where they can take refuge from Herod’s fury, after a terrifying trip. They have a haven here, protected from the peril that harmed their life in Judea.

New

Home

The family now has to adjust to their new environment by locating a place to reside and a source of income. Although they face many difficulties as they adjust to a new culture and environment, they are committed to protecting their son.

Right time &

Appropriate Moment

They remain discreet while they wait patiently in Egypt for the appropriate moment to return home. The family has the opportunity to reflect and strengthen their faith during this difficult time of exile.

Exile Life

Being Settled

The Holy Family must adjust to a new way of life while they are in Egypt. They locate a place to live, make a living, and adjust to the cultural norms of their new country.

Evolution of Spirit

The family’s trust in God has not wavered despite being distant from their native country. They make the most of their exile to strengthen their spiritual ties and get ready for the difficulties that lie ahead.

Awaiting the

Appropriate Moment

The family is eventually able to return home after Herod’s death, but they have to leave on a precise schedule in order to be safe. Their patience and faith in divine providence are put to the test throughout this waiting period.

A Trip Back to Nazareth

Departing Egypt

The Holy Family is given the all-clear to depart Egypt and head back to Judea following the death of Herod.

Homeward Journey

Navigating the same perilous path they had traversed to reach Egypt, the family sets out on their return journey with a newfound sense of purpose and hope.

Moving Ahead in Nazareth

The family arrives in Judea and settles in Nazareth, where Jesus would grow up and start his public ministry, carrying out God’s purpose.

The Secret Years
Nazareth's Childhood

Although the early years of Jesus’ life in Nazareth are mostly left out of the Bible, we can picture a happy boyhood spent under the care and direction of his parents, Mary and Joseph.

Acquiring Skill

Jesus most likely picked up carpentry skills from his father Joseph when he was a young man, obtaining knowledge and experience that would help him in his future endeavors.

Preparing Spiritually

Jesus would have developed in stature and wisdom during this period, strengthening his comprehension of God’s purpose for his life and getting ready for his upcoming ministry.
